A friend pointed out that cheerios have trisodium phospate in them. When we were at Safeway, I looked at the ingredients and sure enough it was listed. I use TSP to wash walls and items prior to painting.
I looked it up online, and General Mills says the TSP helps the dough bind.
Disgusting.

Re: Trisodium Phosphate in Cheerios...
Thu, February 22, 2007 - 8:58 AMI never noticed that. It's...creepy.
Apparently it's also used in enemas and as an acidity regulator: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tris..._phosphate -

Re: Trisodium Phosphate in Cheerios...
Thu, February 22, 2007 - 9:39 AMSo, any good links to negative affects on human health from TSP?
They also use it in water treatment plants to add to the outgoing water to help remove calcium buildup from the lines and it has been shown to damage enamel both in teeth and bathroom fixtures, at least around here it is showing that effect in nearby houses.
The city refuses to stop though claiming it is making the water system healthier.

Re: Trisodium Phosphate in Cheerios...
Fri, February 23, 2007 - 9:53 AMActually the foolish way they calculate the GNP makes it so that people getting sick looks like it is good for the economy. Cancer and other huge expense ailments being a prime example.
Same thing with social problems leading to crime and other court cases such as civil suits. It looks like there is more overall commerce yet these things are actually a drain on the economy.

Re: Trisodium Phosphate in Cheerios...
Mon, February 9, 2009 - 6:11 AMMy 3rd son was very emotional as a toddler, was a handfill to say the least. When he was 6 yrs old another Mother spoke to me about food alleries. The Trisodium phosphate connection was made when I switched from Cheerios To KIX.... Shame on your General Mills its in ALL your cereals and cookies.
My Sons quality of life as a young child was effected by this chemical but when I wrote GM about this issue they sent me Coupons.... I have not purchased anything with a GM label for over 20 yrs now and will NEVER... how dare they market themselves to children -

Re: Trisodium Phosphate in Cheerios...
Mon, February 9, 2009 - 7:40 AMI researched why tsp is in Cheerios, and the corporation released a statement that tsp is a bonding agent during food production.
Still disgusting in my opinion.
